Zak Killian

Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

If you talk to long-time fans of the Fallout series of games, there's one thing that almost all of them will agree on: Fallout 2 was the best. Of the newer games, though, the most well-regarded is certainly 2010's Fallout: New Vegas... Read more...

Speaking as hardware nerds ourselves, if there's one thing that hardware nerds love to do, it's speculate on upcoming products. Around these parts, we're pretty pleased with Intel's 12th-Gen Alder Lake processors, but even still, we've... Read more...
Alright, so—remember how Intel's LGA 1700 sockets seem to be bending CPU heatspreaders, causing reduced cooling performance? We told you about it back when we talked about how AMD's socket AM5 seems specifically designed to avoid this... Read more...

The Capcom Pro Tour fighting game tournament just wrapped, and at the end of the fights last night, the series' host dropped an announcement that was news to absolutely no-one that pays attention to these sorts of things. As expected... Read more...
Barely more than a week ago, we heard through the grapevine that AMD had moved up its plans to launch its Zen 4 CPUs from Q4 of this year to Q3, and possibly as soon as August or July. The only source is frequent Twitter leaker Greymon55... Read more...
In case you missed it, Intel's planning to ship some four million or more discrete GPUs this year, and going forward, too. That doesn't necessarily mean four million desktop graphics cards, but to put things in perspective, the entire... Read more...
If you compare the Intel of the latter half of the 2010 to the Intel of the former half of 2010, they're barely recognizable. Once upon a time, Intel was firing on all cylinders, kicking butt and taking names with definitive leadership in... Read more...

Intel doesn't have a long history of fabricating other people's processors, but the company has made it clear that it seeks to make that a major part of its business going forward. In case you missed it, Intel's Foundry Services (IFS) is... Read more...
Have you ever noticed that basically all extant mid-range and high-end graphics cards support four display outs? Why has that become the standard? Who knows. It does seem to be the accepted configuration for the last few generations of... Read more...

The GeForce RTX 3050 8GB, as we (and everyone else) reviewed it, is based on the GA106-150 GPU. That's a cut-down version of the very same GA106 GPU used in the RTX 3060 and the professional-grade RTX A2000. If that's the case, then why... Read more...
