Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

In an absolutely gobsmacking bit of news, both Gamers Nexus and JayzTwoCents scored an exclusive press conference with EVGA (along with Jon Peddie Research) where the company's CEO, Andrew Han, announced that EVGA would be severing its... Read more...
For a long time, Intel's branding has been the same: Xeon for servers and workstations, Core for performance desktops and laptops, and then Pentiums and Celerons filling out the low-end. Apparently we're at the end of an era, because Intel... Read more...
Along with its Arc Alchemist GPUs, Intel is launching an AI-powered smart upscaler most similar in form to NVIDIA's DLSS. It's known as XeSS, and just like DLSS, it requires game integration. Even though the higher-end Arc cards are not... Read more...
Machine learning and AI demand enormous amounts of horsepower, if you're doing it on general-purpose processors, which is why companies like Meta and Alphabet have spent billions developing their own specialized neural network... Read more...
It seems like regular leaker Raichu (@OneRaichu on Twitter) has gotten his little Pokémon paws on a pair (at least) of pre-release processors from both Intel and AMD. With the hardware in hand, he did what any proper enthusiast would do... Read more...
Making top-shelf AAA games is an enormous endeavor. If you ever wonder just how enormous, open up your favorite Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, or Bethesda title, and just let the credits run for the hour-plus it'll take. AAA game... Read more...
When producing silicon for use in semiconductor fabrication, manufacturers have to dope the silicon with phosphorous and then anneal the mixture to produce a material that can be turned into a working microchip. As chips get ever-smaller... Read more...
Intel sells a variety of processors with myriad letters stuck to the end. You're probably familiar with the K-series overclockable CPUs, but what about the -T SKUs? These chips have lower power limits and clock rates, and typically don't... Read more...
It's real fun to look at leaks of the RTX 4090 and its ludicrous graphics-processing prowess, but the unfortunate reality is that most of us simply do not have $1500 or more to lay out on a graphics card. The majority of us are going to be... Read more...
When AMD's Socket AM4 platform for its brand-new Zen processors debuted, it came along with a number of growing pains. Most pressing were those related to the memory controller, but there were problems with USB connectivity and some early... Read more...
Are you getting weary of endless pre-release CPU benchmark leaks? We've seen numerous results from AMD's incoming Ryzen 7000 series processors, and we've seen several from Intel's next-gen Raptor Lake processors, too. What we haven't seen... Read more...
AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is a method by which video games can reduce their render resolution (and thus, the GPU workload) and then upscale the lower-resolution input to the higher output resolution of the display. The... Read more...
We have to give NVIDIA's marketing team credit—they're good at building hype. If you want evidence of that, look no further than the company's current efforts, which have garnered thousands of social media impressions with nothing more to... Read more...
Anyone who's done much overclocking will well know that efficient cooling is as much (or more) about the amount of airflow you have as it is the size of your radiator. That holds true for GPUs as well as CPUs, which is why we see graphics... Read more...
Power limits are going up and microprocessors are getting hotter. This is happening across the industry, and it's generally accepted to be the consequence of pushing performance ever higher despite gains from new fabrication processes... Read more...
Typically, when a graphics card launches with two memory configs, they're fundamentally the same, just with different memory densities. That's the case with the GTX 580 3GB, the RX 580 8GB, and the rare GTX 960 4GB. That's not the case... Read more...
Intel's Ryan Shrout and Tom "TAP" Petersen are on the trail again for the release of the Arc A770 and A750 GPUs. The pair were recently in Berlin, Germany, and spoke with German site PC Games Hardware (PCGH) as well as popular YouTube... Read more...
Reading that headline, you're probably already thinking: "5.2 GHz? Isn't that a lower speed than previous leaks?" Yes, it absolutely is, but there's a reason for it: the leaker is comparing the CPU directly against Intel's... Read more...
The current expectation in the hardware enthusiast community is that AMD and Intel's next-generation flagship chips are going to be scant percentage points away from each other in the most common benchmarks. That's informed by a number of... Read more...

Using Intel's Arc discrete GPUs in Linux has worked well enough for a while; Intel's graphics drivers in Linux have historically been quite good. However, they wouldn't be identified properly—they simply showed up as "Intel(R) Graphics."... Read more...
