Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

In case you haven't heard, NVIDIA's recent high-end GPUs are using a new connector, known as "12VHPWR". That's "twelve-volt high power" in ATX-spec-speak, and it's a small plug with twelve pins that can supply up to 600 watts of power for... Read more...
It is extremely rare for children to receive adulterated candy on Halloween, but it has happened a couple of times. For that reason, and because people are crazier than ever in 2022, it's a reasonable idea to go over your kids' haul before... Read more...

Back when we were hearing rumors about the GeForce RTX 4090's monstrous power draw, there were fears that the humongous current demands of the massive graphics processor could trip breakers or even start fires. These fears were amplified... Read more...
AMD's Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 processors are damn fast, no doubt about it. That speed also comes with a cost, though, both in terms of power draw and a literal monetary cost. We'd all like if there were new Zen 4 processors that were a... Read more...

AMD's AM5 socket and Ryzen 7000 processors retain compatibility with CPU coolers designed for Socket AM4. This presents a problem, because the LGA-style socket is much slimmer than the PGA style used on Socket AM4, so using the same... Read more...
